A record that cannot sit behind one door
Verum Integrity Foundation is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit Nigerian foundation. It builds public-interest tools that let citizens, journalists and courts check election results against the sheets they come from.
In February 2023, verification of Africa's largest election rested on a single channel.
INEC's IReV portal failed to upload presidential polling-unit results on time on election night. The delay fed a long and bitter dispute about the outcome.
The evidence needed for independent checking already exists. Every one of Nigeria's 176,846 polling units produces a signed Form EC8A result sheet, and INEC publishes images of them. The gap is capacity. Checking that many sheets has taken weeks, so most disputes are argued from samples, anecdote or partisan claims.
Verum exists to close that gap, openly and lawfully.
Three problems that usually go unproven.
On the sheet
Arithmetic errors and alterations on the result sheet itself.
Between copies
Differences between the sheet a citizen photographed at the polling unit and the sheet uploaded to IReV.
At collation
Drift between polling-unit sheets and the totals announced at ward, LGA and state collation.
